In 2018, we dealt with the topic of "Creative Places" in the context of the PLATZ project and wrote an essay that, in a slightly modified form, also appeared in the publication "Creative Urban Development. Formate, Orte, Strategien" (Publisher Stadt als Campus e.v.). Our reflections in the text boil down to the following 9 theses:
: Every livable city needs open, unprogrammed places, to complement private and public offerings.
: The PLATZ project has benefited enormously from the openness and the dialog at eye level with the administration. Also an award/funding from the Federal Ministry were really helpful for the project and its development.
: For the emergence and sustainable development of a Creative Place, it is helpful to have a common narrative (e. g. we are building a new district, an island, a spaceship ...)
: Creative Places are characterized by the fact that they not only promote economic interests, but also fulfill an overriding social task by meeting the needs of urban society for spaces of opportunity, hybrid places and uses.
: If Creative Places fulfill a public mission in this way, they should also be financially supported in order to obtain planning security. That such relevant tasks and the assumption of municipal responsibility often have to be done in an honorary capacity is simply wrong.
: The starting point and impetus for a Creative Place must be the self-responsibility and the needs of the actors.
: Real assumption of responsibility and growing scope for action have a positive effect on identification.
: A Creative Place is not an expectable result, but a continuous process.
: If Creative Places are to be seedbeds for renewal, there is no point in building nurseries ...
